Ambassador: Russia, India can build nukes in Africa, Middle East

MOSCOW, Jan 22 (PRIME) -- India is discussing construction of nuclear power plants in Africa and the Middle East with Russia, Ambassador Venkatesh Varma told PRIME on Wednesday.

“There are good prospects for nuclear power cooperation between Russia and India in third countries. We are already working under such a scheme in Bangladesh, building the Ruppur plant. Russia is quite active in construction of nuclear power plants in the Middle East and Africa. It opens a new cooperation channel for us,” Varma said.

He said that the construction projects can be started in Ethiopia and several Middle Eastern states. “The negotiations are at the initial stage so far but we hope that this will be a new era in nuclear power cooperation between Russia and India,” he said.
